No Reserve !! $1.00 Starting Bid (And our guarantee that we will not cancel this auction early for a cash offer outside of eBay, as this truck is not listed for sale anywhere else – you have our word on that!) Authentic Military Surplus 1971/1991/2012 AM General M818 “Shorty”* Military 5-ton 6X6 Monster Cargo Truck With 53″ Michelin 16.00R20′s *5 Feet Shorter than an M813 with 1-1/4 times the cargo carrying capacity! 9′ Long M35A2 Cargo Bed (Shortened by 3′) on the back and 53″ Super Singles!! See more pictures and details below. We only do a few of these each year (usually for special orders), but I decided to pull another one out of our line-up for eBay since quite a few people have asking for them. NOTE: (to comply with eBay, DoD and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) Part 121): No weapons, ammunition or un-demilitarized hardware in this No Reserve Auction. COMPLETE CUSTOM RESTORATION This truck was an amazing find. It came out of El Toro MCAS (Marine Corps Air Station), so it was always a West Coast truck. And being a Marine Corps truck used at an Air Station means that it was always well maintained. We purchased it in a lot of trucks from one of the largest and most reputable suppliers of military equipment to Hollywood and the Movie Industry in general. In June of 1991 it received a complete military overhaul by the Tooele Army Depot (engine, transmission, transfer case, axles, etc.) as you can see from the below pictures. It was then sold by the military in April of 1999 when the El Toro base was decommissioned. Between April of 1999 and today, it has only been driven a total of 2,685 miles – about 15 of them by my team for test driving on-road and off-road (plus probably another 15 to 20 miles by me;-). We then tore it completely down and overhauled it yet again to bring it up to our standards and then turned it into the custom “Shorty” rig that you see below. Total document hours on this truck since the day it was manufactured in 1971 is 1,513 – and only 53,786 total miles – amazing!! We have too many hours to count painstakingly restoring this truck to make it run/look better than it did when it first rolled off the assembly line – but I can tell you we spent a LOT of time on it! In Like-New Condition! New everything – from the Upholstery, Wheels and Tires to the Injection/Lift Pump, Injectors, Brake Lines, Steering Box, Wiring, Gaskets, Hoses, Fluids and Alternator!! PLUS; Completely painted from top to bottom, undercoated AND Bed Lined THIS MONTH! We started with a stock 6X6 M818 Tractor from the military, removed the 5th wheel and tore the truck down to the frame. We then cut down a 12-foot M35A2 Cargo Body to 9-feet by removing 3-feet from the center of the bed using a laser level to make sure it is perfect and put it back together. We reinforced the welds and added additional bracing between the frame and bed so it is stronger than the original cargo box would have been. Note that this is often overlooked in order to save time, but since you lose 2 hard-point mounting brackets when you shorten the bed, we consider it a critically important modification if you plan to haul some serious cargo in the back. That means that we kept the original on-road payload capacity of 25,000 lbs in the cargo bed and a whopping 30,000+ lb towing capacity. We sand blasted the bed and custom built the spare tire holder so it would take the larger diameter Super Singles. Then the bed gets a double coat of filler/primer and two thick coats of a premium bed liner for durability and looks. We replace most of the wiring, brake lines and air lines and then turn the rear hubs so the front and rear tires track correctly (we don’t cut corners and use offset wheels – this way you can rotate your tires any time you want). Then a set of monster Michelin XZL 53 inch Tubeless 16.00 R20′s with beadlocks and custom military 2-piece wheels goes on underneath it all – the Wheels and Tires alone cost close to $7,000. While the frame work is being done, the body gets stripped while it is off the truck and the Cummins Diesel Motor gets a thorough going through. Anything that needs work is replaced with new OEM parts – not repaired. Once the frame is done, it is blasted as well and painted and the truck is reassembled. Finally, the body gets 2 coats of Primer and 3 coats of flat paint before the stenciling goes back on. The fender wells, bottom of the cab and bed as well as the engine compartment gets a thick coat of commercial grade undercoating so it will be worry-free for decades! Back together, this truck is HUGE and very capable – it would be almost impossible to get this truck stuck, and the 53 inch tires gives you a top speed increase to 65 miles an hour if you push it at 2,400 rpm’s. It will cruise comfortably at 60 MPH right at about 2,100 rpm’s. Even with the massive size of this truck though, it is surprising easy to drive. The power-assisted steering is easier than a stock 5-ton once we are done with it and you can literally turn the wheel with one finger at any speed. There’s way too much work to break down and list here, but see the more than 350 high resolution pictures below for all the details. All work was done in house. Clear Title on hand! You can register this truck immediately for on-street use in any state!! Meticulously maintained and in PRISTINE original condition. The exterior is extremely nice, very straight (a couple of very minor dings courtesy of the Marines, but nothing big enough to bother with), recently blasted and professionally painted with Military Desert Tan Paint. EXCELLENT set of HUGE 53″ Michelin XZL’s (16.00 R20) with Bead Locks on custom 2-piece wheels! Starts well (always fires right up on the first crank) and runs great! No leaks that we can detect and everything works like it should. 9-Foot “Shorty” cargo box is in like-new condition with a new spray on bed-liner and absolutely NO major problems that we are aware of. PARTIAL LIST OF MECHANICAL THINGS THAT WE DID TO THIS TRUCK -NEW Front and Rear Axle Seals and Boots -NEW Wheel Bearings (Inner & Outer) -NEW Fuel Injection/Lift Pump -NEW Fuel Injectors -NEW Fuel Pump -NEW Steering Box -NEW Brake Lines -NEW Alternator -NEW wiring FULL Service on all Fluids, Filters, Belts & Hoses New Spray On Bed Liner NOTE THAT THE BOTTOM OF THE CARGO BED IS A WHOPPING/SHOULDER-STRAINING 60″ (YES, THAT IS FIVE FEET) OFF THE GROUND!! PERFECT FOR GROCERIES;-) Cargo Bed Dimensions OVERALL; 9′ 2” Long X 8′ Wide INNER; 9′ Long X 7′ 5” Wide NOTE: The interior floor boards, both cargo/tool boxes, the battery box and all steps are Sprayed in Bed Liner (Black) in addition to the cargo area, so they are extremely durable and easy to keep clean!! Plus, we put a painted to match non-skid surface on the top of each front fender – which is actually another high traffic area if you have every checked the oil in one of these;-). After a day in the mud with this truck, get your hose out, spray it down and as soon as it dries, valet park it at the nicest restaurant in town and have a nice dinner. I guarantee that it will be left out front waiting for you after dinner – both for the attention it will draw AND for the fear you’ll see in the valet’s eyes at the thought of trying to park it! All Six (6) tires are in EXCELLENT shape, hold air perfectly have between 95% and 100% of their tread left! And, the MATCHING SPARE is about 90% tread, so you can incorporate it into your rotation schedule. Michelin still makes these, so they are easy to find at most truck shops as well as on eBay often. Again, this truck comes with a matching Full Sized Spare – it has 90% tread I would say and it is on a matching rim, so you can not only drive normally if you ever do have to swap it for a flat, but you can incorporate it into your tire rotation schedule so they will always be a matching tread tire for you to use should you need it!! We modified the spare tire holder so you can take it with you anywhere and not have to worry about giving up cargo space in the cargo bed. INTERIOR AND ENGINE ENGINE COMPARTMENT SOME MORE PICTURES And Last but Not Least (since we spent almost as much time under this truck as we did on it or in the engine compartment;-) – The Undercarriage has also be stripped, sand blasted, prepped, undercoated and painted to look as new as it was when it rolled off the assembly line… ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM AREAS THAT WE ARE AWARE OF – AND WE HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY THROUGH THIS TRUCK INSIDE AND OUT! Ready to go to work (or PLAY;-) for you immediately!
